Our Commitment to Safety, the Ultimate Expression of Patient Care
The safety of our patients and employees is a top priority for GMR. The alignment of safety objectives, standards and processes across all our companies requires a continual investment in training and technology. It also requires the fostering of a company-wide culture that empowers everyone to speak up if, and when, they see unsafe activity.
Additionally, we view the safety-regulatory process as a partnership designed for the benefit of our employees, customers and the general public. We are committed to compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, and to productive relationships with all regulatory bodies.
The GMR Safety Management System
To ensure we are continuously improving the level of safety throughout GMR, we implemented and maintain a robust Safety Management System (SMS). This system goes above and beyond standard preventative approaches by systematically managing organizational?safety, including the necessary?organizational structures, accountabilities, policies and procedures.
The SMS informs our national risk profile and facilitates a predictive posture toward that risk. This feeds our safety culture with quality data that then can be analyzed, broken down and turned back into processes that address risk before an incident or accident occurs. At its core, our SMS offers a formal and sustainable approach to?safety,?relying?on data over emotion to guide?strategy.?

Just Culture? and Shared Accountability
Fundamental to the success of any safety system is the quality of information that goes into it, which then impacts the quality of processes and procedures that are created. Getting the highest quality data requires input from all levels of the organization. This, in turn, requires a strong culture of safety where the reporting of risk is encouraged, and employees are empowered to say something if they see something.
To this end, GMR has implemented a Just Culture methodology of shared accountability in which organizations are accountable for the systems they have designed and for responding to the behaviors of their employees in a fair and just manner. Conversely, employees are accountable for the quality of their choices and for reporting errors and system vulnerabilities. By focusing on fixing the problem, not the blame, we quickly and efficiently address errors and adverse events, continually improving and evolving our safety culture over time
